OK (Oil Consumer - Sweden) was founded in 1978 by Lord Young of Dartington, who was the founder of Which Magazine, The Consumer Association and Co-founder of the Open University. During the mid sixties and seventies Which magazine made a number of scathing attacks on the standard of garage servicing and the treatment the motorist received from the garage trade. Lord Young, together with a colleague - Marianne Rigge - decided to investigate the possibility of opening a motoring centre on a 'not for profit' basis, where motorists could carry out their own repairs under supervision. The current Managing Director and Chairman, Bill Dredge, joined OK in 1979 and took their dream and put it into practice, using his then 25 years of motor trade experience to bring a superb idea to reality. The range of services has been increased and now OK offers: DIY; Garage Services; Painting and Bodywork; Videos; Training Courses (with a local College); Safety Evenings; and since 1980 has helped over 3500 school children and many thousands of DIYers all over the world via our videos. Now we hope with your involvement to be helping even more via the World Wide Web. |
