Question:

    Dear sir,

I have a VW Golf 2.0 GL Mk III. The ABS signal turned on during driving but when I stopped and restarted the engine, the signal turned off itself. Can you tell me what is the problem? Is there any electrical problem rather than the ABS itself?

    Thank you.

    Stanley

Answer:

    Dear Stanley,

Without a full investigation it's difficult to be certain with ABS, however I believe your problem will be an electrical one, probably caused by some corrosion around one of the ABS sensors (there's one on each wheel).

If the problem happens again, I'm afraid it will mean a trip to your favourite Garage as these things are not to be trifled with, (they're very expensive).

It will need a diagnostic unit to find out which one it is, and then some careful treatment to extract the unit to clean it, if it's badly corroded it with mean a new sensor I'm afraid.

If it doesn't show again I shouldn't worry to much, but if it does please take the action I've recommended, we can't take chances with your Brakes.

    Regards Bill
