Are Diesels cheaper to run than Petrol engine cars and are they safer for the environment...

A Diesel engined vehicle has Two main benefits.. First, they use less fuel and second, the engines last longer (but only if properly maintained).. in my opinion those are their only attributes.. other than that they usually cost more to buy and most second hand high mileage diesels are smelly, noisey and dirty, I believe they do at least as much harm if not more to us and our environment than petrol engined vehicles do, when ever we, at the OK, have to work on diesel engined vehicles we have difficulty getting rid of the smell and fumes, and if the fuel itself gets on your cloths or skin it doesn't evaporate like petrol it's there for ages if you don't wash it off.. so think about it.
If in any doubt, consult a garage or a specialist centre
